Using pencil tool

Pencil tool is the “reverse” of the pen tool: it draws paths but ADDS anchor points that you can later adjust

 Either keeps the path once drawn or allows you to modify a drawn or selected path when you get within so many pixels of it

Window> Brushes to get to Brushes Panel

Open flyout menu at top right corner to turn on/off ability to see 4 brush types

Calligraphic Brushes: resemble oval pen type tips used for detailed lettering

Flyout menu> show calligraphic brushes

Brushes panel> doubleclick a brush to open its dialogue box

Scatter Brushes

Scatter brushes scatter patterns of shapes

Double-click on a scatter brush in the brushes menu to launch the scatter brush options for that brush

Art Brushes

Art brush shapes can range from chalk textures to charcoal pencil, a variety of paintbrushes and watercolor brushes and pen and ink strokes and patterns

Double-click on a paintbrush selection in the brushes menu to launch the brush options window for that brush

When library opens > drag and drop brushes you want from library to your brushes panel to add them

 

Pattern Brushes

Pattern brushes allow a wide variety of preset patterns to be drawn from a single stroke or assigned to a path created with a shape tool

Patterns range from geometric shapes to natural patterns such as leaves and grass and even novelty patterns

Pattern brushes can be used in combination with the shape tools to create pattern borders in shapes such as the circle example shown here
